When trying to figure out the size need for an urn, an urn is generally rated by the cu. in. (cubic inches) the vessel holds. Generally speaking, one can assume 1 lb. of body weight is equal to 1 cu. in. of cremains. So, 150 lbs body weight would require an urn of at least 150 cu. in.
These are different clay types and firing temperatures. Generally, this is the temperature that the clay is fired to, in order to reach the desired "hardness".
All 3 use different types of clay.
- Terra cotta is generally noted for its red orange color and reaches its desired "hardness" at a relatively low firing temperature.
- Stoneware is generally noted for its flecks of brown in the glaze and reaches its desired "hardness" at a relatively medium firing temperature.
- Porcelain is generally noted for its white clay body color and reaches its desired "hardness" at a relatively high firing temperature.
The terra cotta urns are different styles with different sizes. Until we create more styles, the size is dictated by the style that you choose. At this point in time the only custom sizes are in stoneware and porcelain.
